WHY BE A “FRIEND” OF THE TIMUCUAN TRAIL PARKS FOUNDATION?

The answer is simple:  Because these are your parks and they need your support and protection. We have one of the largest urban park systems in the United States right here in Jacksonville. These 80,000 acres, which comprise 14 city parks, three national parks, and seven Florida state parks, preserve the unspoiled, natural beauty of “old Florida” which protects a unique estuarine ecosystem comprised of coastline, salt marsh, coastal dunes, and hardwood hammocks.

Our parks are also rich in history, dating back 6,000 years when the Timucua Indians first lived and thrived in this area. Our battle scars are evidenced at Camp Milton. Our plantation life is chronicled at Kingsley Plantation. These parks are “alive” and give us a ‘sense of place’ regardless of where we came from.

We need to join together to ensure our ‘sense of place’ is not only protected but shared with everyone – we need to activate our parks so they remain relevant to our community and we need to be the “face and voice” to promote our parks.

TAKE ACTION NOW AND BECOME A FRIEND OF THE PARKS TODAY!

If we don’t use our parks, we could lose them.
